Promotion

Inform

Provide scientific content, explain heritage.

Inspire

Promote access to culture.

Amaze

Foster discovery, stimulate curiosity, raise awareness

The purpose of promotion is to share our written and graphic heritage with as many people as possible. As such, it brings together various scientific, educational and aesthetic content. Promoting the collections keeps them alive, raising questions, inspiring and fascinating us. It enables readers – now also viewers – to discover the very existence of this heritage and approach it in their own way.

Promotion is deeply rooted in the scientific work carried out on the collections by all those involved in heritage conservation.
This work, which remains unseen by the general public, involves identifying documents, listing them in catalogues, carrying out historical and technical studies to put the documents into context, and providing physical and/or digital access to documents through conservation and digitisation.

Due to the fragility of our written and graphic heritage, promoting it also requires a great deal of care. Presenting an object, in whatever form, has a real impact on its conservation condition. Promoting collections and preserving them for future generations take place in two separate time frames – reconciling them remains a constant challenge.
